Components

 

Engines

All engines are CARB/EPA medium duty certified. These are applicable as heavy duty engines when used in a hybrid application.


Cummins Echo

This APU consists of a Cummins Echo 5.9 liter diesel-fueled engine (capable of being certified to EPA Urban Bus standards, post October 2002) coupled to a Siemens 150kW generator through a Stiebel gearbox. The generator is rated at 150 kW continuous and a peak rating of 200 kW. The generator is controlled by a second "Duo" inverter that is identical to the main drive motor inverters with the exception of the software installed in the unit. The combined weight of the generator and gearbox is approximately 170 kg. The APU is sized to enable a 40-foot bus to perform efficiently in local stop-and-go driving at grades up to 17%. For applications requiring extended high speed driving, either a high energy battery pack or a larger engine (Cummins ISL or equivalent) and a second generator can be added.


Ford V10

This APU consists of a Ford 6.8 liter gasoline or LPG fueled V10 engine coupled to a Siemens 150kW generator through a Stiebel gearbox. The generator is rated at 150 kW continuous and a peak rating of 200 kW. The generator is controlled by a second "Duo" inverter that is identical to the main drive motor inverters with the exception of the software installed in the unit. The combined weight of the generator and gearbox is approximately 170 kg. The APU is sized to enable a 40-foot bus to perform efficiently in local stop-and-go driving at grades up to 17%. For applications requiring extended high speed driving, either a high energy battery pack or a larger engine and a second generator can be added. The v10 has 310hp at 4250rpm and 425 ft-lbs of torque at 3250 rpm.
