The Millennial generation is a generation like no other. They pretty much encompass anyone aged 34 to 18, or born between 1981 and 1997. They are the entrepreneur generation, the generation that grew up on the internet and is filling up the workforce.
Millennials may have some of the same interests as other generations, but the fact that they have been playing with computers since they were little, it makes sense that someone wanting to advertise to them needs to work at different angles to reach them.
Millennials are smart and they use smart products. They spend time watching television on smart TVs and they wouldn’t be caught dead without a smartphone. You need to make sure that your website looks great on a small cellphone screen, or you are definitely going to lose out on reaching this generation.
Mobile marketing is definitely an important key to reaching the “selfie” generation. They also love to communicate online, so make it easy to find what you are selling online, make it easy for them to buy it online, and make it easy for them to get ahold of you online (which means having the right social media accounts as well).
Millennials like green living. They care about the environment, so if you want to sell to them you need to be recycling, reusing, and repurposing everything you can. Find a way to create something that is friendly to the earth, nature, and the animals and you’ll have their interest.
Think lower carbon footprint and less energy use. You may also want to focus on locally resourced, when it comes to advertising. While selling globally brings in more money, you can’t forget the people in your own area, and you can use that local edge.
Be Pet Friendly
Speaking of being kind to the animals. Millennials love their pets, and nature in general. Come up with a product or services that offer them something pet friendly and you’ll have them hooked. Advertise that you don’t test on animals, show them your company cares as well.
Include pets in your advertisements too! Who doesn’t fall for a cute and cuddly dog or kitten?
Nothing will chase away the millennial crowd faster than dishonesty, especially in advertising. They want to know where your product comes from, honestly. They want to know how you came up with your idea and how you got to where you are today.
You also want to make sure that you relate to them, in any way you can. Using these ideas it shouldn’t be too hard to be understood by the generation that is making the internet take control, from our lives to our work.
